Personal Animation Journal

Firstly, I would like to go back to China to find a job, because China is my home.

I don’t have any particular company I like, but I would like to work in China particularly.

I’m interested in working in Games Industry and Feature Films / Series.

I’m interested in the director, animator, and storyboard. I have joined an animation course which was run by a Chinese animation studio named Pbanimation, and I have interviewed a Chinese animator, who is also my teacher, here are his answers about what the role entails and what are the responsibilities:

The director has a general director, a mid-production director, a dubbing director, and so on. The mid-production director mainly controls the storyboard, clean-up, animation, coloring, and post-production, and will work with several assistant directors to control the overall effect of the finished film and the rework, and the director also has a card painting, the more difficult, or modify the views of the larger.

About the animator, according to my understanding, from a still frame and very sketchy design to a complete drawing of the keyframes and the general aspect of the shape, it’s just two words, but it’s super difficult to do, the decomposition of the action, the choice of keyframes, and the rate of performance, that is, the rhythm table, as far as the usual drawing is concerned, the basic value of 100 points, few people can achieve more than 90 points, just one, a drawing of the human body, perspective, proportion, shape, shadows It takes a lot of time to draw the human body, perspective, proportions, shape, light, and shadow. Now, there are 18 such [one], or 26, or even 35, all of which you have to draw, and that’s not all. The characters are moving, there are turning surfaces, there are movement trajectories, the height, and undulation of walking, and then there are some detailed performances of the characters’ facial expressions, normal crying, sad crying, crying that you want to cry but are holding back, crying with laughter, anyway, there are many kinds, all of which are drawn by the animator. These three points are the most difficult points for me, because most people still keep working hard on this part in China.

The storyboard controls the angle of the camera to convey the mood, or to control the camera according to the mood of the character. And notes the duration, angle, distance, what happened, and direction of the movement of each shot.
